Robert Forster è morto lo scorso 11 ottobre a Los Angeles all’età di 78 anni dopo una breve battaglia contro un cancro al cervello. Attore caratterista molto stimato all’interno dell’industria cinematografica, fu nominato al Premio Oscar come miglior attore non protagonista per la parte di Max Cherry in Jackie Brown, di Quentin Tarantino, con quest’ultimo che ha definito la scelta di casting di Forster come una delle migliori della sua carriera; Tarantino, infatti, scrisse l’adattamento proprio con l’attore newyorkese in mente. Versatile sia sul grande che sul piccolo schermo, Forster è apparso in film come Riflessi in un occhio d’oro di John Huston, La notte dell’agguato di Robert Mulligan, il remake di Psyco di Gus Van Sant e Mulholland Drive di David Lynch; da Lynch, tra l’altro, è stato diretto anche nel revival di Twin Peaks nella parte del fratello dello sceriffo Truman. Sul piccolo schermo ha interpretato, tra gli altri, il ruolo Arthur Petrelli in Heroes e quello di Ed Galbraith in Breaking Bad, che riprenderà anche nel film sequel El Camino nella sua ultima interpretazione.
Non sono tardati ad arrivare gli omaggi di amici e colleghi, tra i quali gli stessi Lynch e Tarantino, ma anche dal cast di Twin Peaks e Breaking Bad/El Camino. Lynch ha affidato il suo ricordo a un comunicato diffuso da Deadline: «Mi sento molto fortunato ad avere avuto l’opportunità di conoscere e lavorare con Robert. Era un grande attore e uno straordinario essere umano. Ci mancherà davvero». Anche Tarantino si è affidato alla testata americana: «Oggi il mondo ha un gentiluomo in meno. Un tiratore scelto in meno. Un uomo buono in meno. Un padre meraviglioso in meno. Un attore straordinario in meno. Ricordo tutte le colazioni fatte insieme. Tutte le storie. Tutte le parole gentili. Tutto il supporto. Scegliere Robert Forster per Jackie Brown fu una delle migliori scelte che io abbia fatto in tutta la mia vita. Mi mancherai, mio caro amico».
