Benjamin Clementine sbaraglia la concorrenza – nomi di primissimo piano come Aphex Twin, Jamie xx, Florence and the Machine e Róisín Murphy (ma anche Ghostpoet) – e si aggiudica il premio per il Miglior album inglese del 2015, ovvero il debut At Least for Now, pubblicato da Virgin / EMI il 30 marzo scorso. L’appena ventiseienne cantante e autore anglo-francese vince il titolo e 20 mila sterline in contanti.
Nel 2008, tra i candidati per il Mercury Prize figurava addirittura Burial, con Untrue (2007). Tra i vincitori delle scorse edizioni ricordiamo Young Fathers (2014), James Blake, Alt-J, The xx, Arctic Monkeys, Pulp, PJ Harvey, Portishead, Primal Scream, Badly Drawn Boy e Antony and the Johnsons.
