In una serie di post pubblicati oggi sul suo canale Twitter, fa riferimento ad uno spiacevole alterco con Jack White avvenuto ieri sera in un bar di New York. White, che in passato aveva accusato i Black Keys (band in cui milita Carney) di aver copiato la sua musica, per poi ritrattare e scusarsi pubblicamente tramite una lettera pubblicata sul proprio sito ufficiale, pare si sia rivolto in modo aggressivo al batterista, che lo ha descritto, testualmente, come un «40 year old bully [who] tried to fight the 35 year old nerd».
Il co-leader dei Dead Weather ha successivamente risposto alla serie di tweet provocatori di Carney tramite Entertainment Weekly, affermando che il musicista se l’è svignata di fronte a una domanda a cui non era in grado rispondere ed invitandolo a parlarne face to face, invece di piagnucolare su Internet. Di seguito, il messaggio originale e i tweet del batterista.
«Nobody tried to fight you, Patrick… …Nobody touched you or ‘bullied’ you. You were asked a question you couldn’t answer so you walked away. So quit whining to the Internet and speak face to face like a human being. End of story».
