E’ stata da poco resa pubblica la lista dei nominati ai Grammy 2019 e pare che lo tsunami del #metoo, oltre ad interessare prestigiosi festival, sia arrivato anche da queste parti, parti che erano state ben criticate all’inizio dell’anno proprio per non tenere abbastanza in considerazione non solo le artiste donne (ricordate la celeberrima frase di Neil Portnow?) ma anche (e più amaramente) gli afroamericani. Cardi B – di origini per metà i trinidadiane e dominicane – è forse l’artista più nominata quest’anno (Miglior album, Miglior disco, Miglior album rap, migliore Rap performance e featurer all’interno dei candidati come Best Pop Duo/Group Performance). E Golden Hour della cantante country pop Kacey Musgraves – che stiamo trovando in molte liste statunitensi di fine anno – è candidato nella sezione “Album Of The Year” assieme ai dischi di altre tre donne, ovvero Brandi Carlile, la citata Cardi B e Janelle Monáe. Dunque uno dei Grammy più ambiti presenta un perfetto equilibrio tra artisti/band maschili e femminili (quattro a quattro) mentre invece alla voce Best Pop Vocal Album registriamo un autentico trionfo di artiste femminili (Camila Cabello, Pink, Kelly Clarkson e le immancabili Ariana Grande e Taylor Swift) con il solo Shawn Mendes in rappresentanza maschile. Strano soltanto notare che Ariana Grande non abbia raccolto molto quest’anno (due sole nomine per lei: Best Pop Solo Performance e Best Pop Vocal Album) soprattutto tenendo presente che premi come questo mostrano da sempre una correlazione diretta tra il numero delle nomination e quello delle copie vendute.
Passando in rassegna gli award principali: sorpresa all’interno della lista relativa al migliore album dance dove troviamo SOPHIE (Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides). Non vincerà mai, ma sarebbe bello vincesse. Fa un po’ sorridere – ma c’era da aspettarselo – che tra i migliori nuovi talenti ci siano anche i Greta Van Fleet. E non è finita qui perché i “i led zeppelin della loro generazione” sono candidati anche nelle categorie Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song e Best Rock Album. Rischiano sul serio di portarne a casa almeno uno. Prevedibile, inoltre, la presenza dell’album legato al film Black Panther e prevedibilmente il suo deus ex machina Kendrick Lamar (che assieme a Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith l’ha curata e supervisionata) lo troviamo anche all’interno della sezione relativa alla migliore canzone dell’anno per la quale tifiamo ovviamente, e parliamo di All the Stars con SZA. Gara dura invece all’interno della sezione Best Alternative Music Album dove troviamo stipati artisti che trattiamo normalmente su queste pagine come Arctic Monkeys (Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino), Beck (Colors), Björk (Utopia), David Byrne (American Utopia) e St. Vincent (Masseduction). La nostra opinione? Meriterebbe la vincita l’artista islandese seguita da St. Vincent.
Sul metal, per quanto riguarda la Best Metal Performance il grammofono per noi andrebbe ai High on Fire con Electric Messiah, mentre arrivando al premio per il miglior video musicale non c’è proprio partita: Childish Gambino con This Is America porterebbe a casa il premio a mani bassissime a casa nostra ma ai Grammy sappiamo bene come va spesso a finire in questi casi… Music film? Anche qui pochi dubbi: Quincy dedicato al mito vivente Quincy Jones (su Netflix e vedi anche il nostro recente articolo su Thriller) è a nostro avviso un ottimo candidato. Vi terremo aggiornati sulle vincite il 10 febbraio, giorno in cui si svolgerà la serata di premiazione della 61° edizione dei Grammy Award.
