Si è svolta la scorsa notte, presso il Dolby Theatre di Los Angeles, la cerimonia relativa alla 90ª edizione degli Oscar. Presentata da Jimmy Kimmel, già conduttore della precedente edizione, l’Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences ha decretato La forma dell’acqua di Guillermo del Toro e J. Miles Dale come miglior film. La pellicola, già vincitrice del Leone D’Oro, si è aggiudicata soltanto 3 delle 13 nomination per le quali era candidata, con Del Toro a ricevere il premio come migliore regista, Paul D. Austerberry, Shane Vieau e Jeff Melvin ad aggiudicarsi la statuetta per la migliore scenografia e il compositore Alexandre Desplat a riceverla per la migliore colonna sonora.
Medesimo (anzi peggior) destino per Dunkirk, con 3 statuette su otto candidature. Tre Oscar perlopiù “tecnici”, ovvero quelli per il miglior montaggio (Lee Smith), il miglior sonoro (Mark Weingarten, Gregg Landaker e Gary A. Rizzo) e il miglior montaggio sonoro (Richard King e Alex Gibson). Peccato inoltre sia per Sufjan Stevens, che non ha vinto con l’ottima Mystery Of Love (il premio per la miglior canzone è andato a Remember Me dal film Coco, scritta da Kristen Anderson-Lopez e Robert Lopez) e per Jonny Greenwood, che speravamo si portasse a casa il riconoscimento per la soundtrack de Il filo nascosto (il premio è andato al sopracitato Alexandre Desplat).
Soddisfazione per Frances McDormand, migliore attrice protagonista del bel Tre manifesti a Ebbing, Missouri, film tra i favoriti che si è aggiudicato soltanto 2 statuette su 7 candidature (l’altra è andata a Sam Rockwell come migliore attore non protagonista). Qualche riconoscimento anche per lo sfortunato (al botteghino) Blade Runner 2049 (migliori effetti speciali e migliore fotografia). E non dimentichiamo il premio a Gary Oldman, migliore attore ne L’ora più buia (Darkest Hour), e l’Italia che vince attraverso James Ivory, che si è accaparrato la statuetta per la migliore sceneggiatura non originale per l’altro favorito Chiamami col tuo nome (1 Oscar su 4 candidature).
